Frequently Asked Questions

1.  When is the best time to get started with YourSearchSimplified.com?

I recommend students start at the end of their sophomore year in order to provide ample time to understand and complete all requirements of the process.  However, if you need help with a specific part of the process,  ala carte options are available and I can jump in and help at any point.

2.  My child has no idea what they want to do or where they want to go.  HELP!

My belief is that discovering your postsecondary journey and career path is complicated and unique to each individual.  While I help your child explore their strengths and interests as well as create a plan for postsecondary education, I want your child to feel empowered to alter or adapt these plans at any time. Research shows that most people change their careers 3-7 times and 47% of people are working in careers that don't match their major.   My goal is to foster the skills and confidence to navigate the ever changing employment landscape.

3.  What advice do you have for my child to set himself apart from other applicants or candidates?

My approach relies on highlighting the strengths, values, and individual accomplishments of your child.  The emphasis is not on differentiating from others, rather creating a meaningful story about YOUR CHILD.  We will utilize all parts of the application to craft a complete story about your child.

4.  I've tried everything to motivate my child to apply to college or search for a career and they haven't done anything.  I don't think anything or anyone will help!

Figuring out next steps in your life can be a paralyzing and overwhelming process for some children (and adults).  It might appear that your child is stubborn or lazy.  Often times fear of the unknown and unfamiliarity with new processes creates this paralysis, not laziness!  Having a neutral party guide your child through the journey of self-exploration and career exploration while providing encouragement AND accountability, often is the catalyst needed to move your child from your couch to a career.
